WAIRARAPA v. ARMY. EASY WIN FOR SOLDIERS. There was a large attendance at the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday to witness a game between the Army and a Wairarapa team. The match was arranged by the Carterton Patriotic Committee to assist the National Patriotic Appeal. The Army Band was in attendance and their excellent music was greatly appreciated. The takings at the gate amounted to approximately £4O. Soldiers were admitted free. A curtain-raiser to the principal attraction was played between members of the Brigade Headquarters and the Air Force when an interesting game ended in favour of the Brigade by 16 points to 11. Lieutenant Campbell controlled the game The Army team was captained by Bedingfield and Wairarapa by Martin Parker. The game was a fast and spectacular one. Both sets of forwards worked well and the backs combined splendidly. The Army backs were more aggressive than those in the Wairarapa team. The first score came to the Army from a potted goal. The Army then went on to register two converted tries. The first spell score being Army 14, Wairarapa nil. In the second spell the Army scored three tries and Wairarapa a penalty goal and an unconverted try. The final score was: Army 23, Wairarapa 6. Mr W. Grantham was an efficient referee. ' Another game will be played later in the season between the Army and Wairarapa teams.
The Carter ton A grade team played a drawn game (8 points each) against Masterton on the Royal Oak ground, Carterton, on Saturday. Mr W. Spooner was referee.

MANAWATU v. WANGANUI. (Ey Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, This Day. In a representative match at Wanganui on Saturday Manawatu beat Wanganui by 21 -points to 16.
