U-BOAT BLOCKADE

CHALLENGED BY ARGENTINA INSISTENCE ON NEUTRAL. RIGHTS. SINKINGS IN THE GULF OF MEXICO. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) BUENOS AIRES, June 27. The Foreign Minister, Dr Gumazu, indicated yesterday that Argentina will challenge Germany’s submarine blockade of the United States east coast. Saying that Argentina insists on its rights, as a neutral, to send ships to any sea in the; world, he emphasised that the protest 'to Germany regarding the sinking of the Rio Tercero demanded that the Germans should recognise these rights. Seven Argentine ships are now in. or near the zone affected by the German blockade, and observers believe thenpresence will provide a test of German intentions.

In Washington the Navy Department announced the sinking of a small United States merchantman in the Gulf of Mexico, and a medium-sized British vessel off the South American coast. Five were killed and two are missing from the two ships.
