DAY ON ESTIMATES
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. ADJOURNMENT TILL TUESDAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Discussion on the general Estimates occupied the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon and evening after brief formal business had been disposed of. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, was absent on a tour of inspection of the earthquake damage in the Wairarapa, and the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, acted as Leader of the House. He gave members a short summary of official reports on the effect of the earthquake in various towns. Good progress was made with the Estimates, 13 classes of departmental votes being put through with a minimum of discussion. These were: Legislature, £110,078; Prime Minister’s Department, £121,603; Treasury, £65,345; Audit, £39.900; Public Service Commissioner’s Office, £19,500; External Affairs, £192,200; Electoral Department, £9,100; Police, £730,000; Census and Statistics, £30,000; Industries and Commerce, Tourist and Publicity, £631,650; Scientific and Industrial, £168,463; Linen Flax Development, £300,000; Iron and Steel, £2,110. The total was £2,419,949. The House adjourned at 10.25 p.m. till 7.30 on Tuesday evening.
