MURDER OF JEWS
COLOSSAL NAZI CRIME IN POLAND MORE THAN 700,000 VICTIMS SLAUGHTERED. GREATEST MASSACRE IN WORLD HISTORY. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June 24. More than 700,000 Polish Jews have been slaughtered by the Germans in the greatest massacre in the world’s history, states the report of an active group smuggled from Poland to the Jewish representative on the Polish National Council, and published at length in the “Daily Telegraph.” The Germans also, it is reported, are carrying out a system of starvation from which the total deaths are expected to be nearly as high as the executions which began in eastern Galicia last year. The procedure everywhere is similar. Men and boys, aged from 14 to 60, are assembled, usually in a public square or cemetery, where they are knifed, machine-gunned or killed with grenades, after digging their own graves. The death totals include:—Vilna and the Lithuania, Kaunas district, 300,000: Rovna, in three night, 15,000. In Chelmno, from November to 1 March, 5000 from four towns and 35,0001 from the Lodz ghetto were killed in vans fitted as gas chambers into each of which 90 were crowded at each time. Other death totals included: Lwow, 30,000; Stanislwow, 15,000; Slonim, 9000; Tranapol, 5000; Brzezany, 4000. In Mjch, 25,000 Jews were taken from Lublin in sealed wagons, after which all trace of them was lost. Children under five and adults over 50 were denied medical supplies in the Warsaw ghetto, where 600,000 Jews have been concentrated, averaging 19 in each room. Thus there was a minimum of aid against the ravages of typhus and other epidemics. The “Daily Telegraph” understands that the Polish Government is communicating these facts and figures to the British and Allied Governments.
