NUMEROUS ATTACKS
ON ENEMY LAND FORCES & SHIPPING MADE BY EMPIRE AIRMEN. AXIS RAIDS ON EGYPT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) RUGBY, June 25. A R.A.F. Middle East communique states: “Fighter-bombers and day bombers of the R.A.F. and South African Air Force made numerous attacks throughout yesterday on large columns of enemy transport and tanks in the forward area. An enemy column moving north was bombed.. Preliminary reports show that much damage was done. Fighters patrolling forward areas destroyed two enemy machines. Objectives between Tmimi and Derna were attacked by fighters. .“Last night a heavy raid was made on shipping and the harbour at Benghai by the R.A.F. and United States bombers. “During a small-scale enemy raid on Malta on Tuesday, Spitfires shot down two machines. On the following night one raider was destroyed. “Two large enemy supply ships, escorted by two destroyers, were attacked by our bombers on Monday night, east of Palermo. A direct hit, causing a fire, was scored on the stern of a supply ship. “Enemy activity over the forward area was slight yesterday. On Tuesday night and last night enemy bombers raided coastal areas near Daha and Mersa Matruh, doing slight damage. “From all operations, four of our aircraft are missing. One pilot is safe.
LUFTWAFFE ATTACKS REPORTED BY BERLIN NEWS AGENCY. (Received This Day, 10.0 a.m.) LONDON, June 25. The Berlin official news agency claims that the Luftwaffe yesterday attacked vehicles, depots, barracks and airfields between Mersa Matruh and Sidi Barrani and also columns retiring in the area eastward of Solium. MOTION IN COMMONS ATTACK ON GOVERNMENT. COMPLETE RECONSTRUCTION DEMANDED. LONDON, June 24. Mr W. J. Brown (Independent) and Captain A. S. Cunningham-Reid, D.F.C. (Conservative) have tabled a new motion in the House of Commons: “In view of the Government’s insistence on the principle of the responsibility of the Government as a whole foT the prosecution of the war, this House is of the opinion that the Tobruk disaster must be considered the Government’s direct responsibility. “This House, therefore, is of the opinion that nothing short of complete reconstruction of the Government, on the basis of selection by merit and not by reference to party claims, can restore public confidence in the direction of the war effort, and accordingly calls for this immediately.”
