1 V PRAISED BY THE MAYOR DENIAL OF WELLINGTON REPORT. NO SIGN OF ANY PANIC. Surprise at a report published in a Wellington paper, giving the impression that there had been a panic in Masterton during the earthquake, was expressed by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, at a meeting this morning. The report, he said, was quite contrary to fact. The public showed not the slightest sign of panic in any instance and behaved remarkably well. Mr Jordan said he was proud of the way in which the public had met the situation and he trusted the same spirit would continue.
