GERMANS CROSS DONETZ AT SOME POINTS USING BIG CONCENTRATION OF TANKS. THRUST AGAINST ROSTOV STILL DELAYED. ißritish Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 9.40 a.m.) RUGBY, June 25. The German offensive in Russia appears, from reports reaching London, to be on a narrow front between Kharkov and the railway junction of Kupiansk, 65 miles to the east. In this region the Germans, using a very great concentration of tanks, have effected a penetration across the Upper Donetz at some points. They have suffered heavy losses in doing so. It is recalled that when the Russians made their thrust against Kharkov last month, they stated that its object was to forestall a German offensive in preparation against Rostov., The Russians then were successful, for the Germans had to divert forces from the southern sector to check the Russian advance. Having done that, the Germans attacked round Kharkov on the northern flank of a Russian salient, but were stopped. The present assault is, therefore, a second attempt to force back the Russian forces from the Upper Donetz, where they are so well placed for hampering the German plan to capture Rostov. As a result of these operations and the continued resistance against intense pressure at Sebastopol, the main offensive against Rostov is still delayed.
