ON THE KHARKOV FRONT Failure of German Effort to Break Through DAY AND NIGHT CONFLICT AT SEBASTOPOL. ENEMY GAINS SOME GROUND AT HEAVY COST LONDON, June 25. On the Kharkov front the battle now swaying with varying fortunes. Since the Soviet troops have taken up new positions several important positions and villages have changed. • hands several times in a few hours. It is claimed that the Nazis’ original plan to break right through in one tremendous offensive has failed. The Soviet line still holds strongly. At Sebastopol fighting is going on day and night. Fighting is particularly intense to the north. The Germans made a ferocious onslaught to widen the wedge already forced into the Russian lines. They succeeded in pushing the Russian line back at one point. The German losses were out of all proportion to the territory gained.
