MEN & TANKS
QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS THE ENEMY’S ALLEGED SUPERIORITY. EXPLANATION SOUGHT FROM MR. CHURCHILL. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.15 am.) RUGBY. June 23. Following on Mr Attlee’s statement on Libya in the House of Commons, Earl Winterton asked Mr Attlee to request the Prime Minister for an explanation of how the enemy possessed superior manpower and more suitable tanks and aeroplanes than we did. He asked the Defence Minister and the War Secretariat to inquire closely into the armament and hitting power of armoured divisions at home. If British and American divisions were sent overseas without armoured equality. Earl Winterton said, there would be one of the greatest catastrophies in our history. Mr Attlee said he meant to convey these points to the Prime Minister, but said he must not be taken as accepting Earl Winterton's judgment in regard to these events.
