WASTE IN CAMPS
CAUSING SERIOUS CONCERN UN AUSTRALIA SUGGESTED FEDERAL ACTION. APPOINTMENT OF CIVILIAN ECONOMY EXPERTS. (By Telegraph—Press Associatioh—Copyright) SYDNEY, June 23. The Federal Government may decide to appoint civilian economy experts to Army and Air Force camps with the object of stopping waste, states a Government spokesman. It is expected that a recommendation to this effect will be made by the Australian Food Council. It is alleged that most of the waste occurs in food, petrol, and rubber. Recently Government experts made an inspection of waste dumps at several camps, and it is understood they found that 20 per cent of the tires discarded as valueless could have been retreaded. As an example of food waste, the spokesman said it had been reported at one camp that mealswere prepared for 5000 troops, andwhen it was later found that 3000 troops were absent on manoeuvres, the remaining food was thrown away.
