The monthly meeting of the Pahautea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday, Mrs Ross presiding. A vote of thanks passed to Mrs Parker and Mrs Welch for their efforts on behalf of the soldiers’ parcels fund. A number of articles were handed in for merchant seamen. The competitions resulted as follow: —Eest bloom, Mrs Sadler 1, Mrs Beattie 2. Best article for kitchen use, not costing more than a shilling: Mrs Sadler. - Mrs Beu, of Greytown, gave an interesting address on the work of the division. The hostesses were Mesdames Corlet and Connell. WAR TIME SERVICE LARGE ATTENDANCE LAST NIGHT There was a large attendance at the Citizens’ War Time Service held in the Cosy Theatre last evening. The preacher was Padre Murray. The prayers were led by the Rev. J. R. Higgs and the lesson read by the Rev. W. S. Young. The anthem “Seek Ye The Lord,” was rendered by the combined choirs, Lieutenant A. J. C. Webster being the soloist. The accompanist was Mrs K. H. Allen. There were a number of soldiers present, as well as Guides and Scouts. • After the service the congregation were invited to a concert when popular hymns were sung. Mr K. H. Allen sang “The Blind Ploughman,” Lieutenant A. J. Webster “Arise! Oh Sun,” a vocal duet, “Watchman, What of theNight,” was sung by Messrs Hunter and Clark. The accompanist was Miss J. Hunter. Golf. ’ A medal round was played during the weekend on the Gun Grove links and resulted as follows: — W. H. Knowles, 76, 3, 73, 1; H. Bloxam, 86, 12, 74, 2; H. Nielson, 91, 16, 75, 3. Football Matches. The football public of Featherston were treated to splendid football exhibitions over the weekend. On Saturday a brilliant match between two Army teams (R.M.T. and A.S.C.) resulted in the former winning by 12 points to 9. Yesterday another match between Railway teams, Wellington Porters and Cross Creek resulted in a win for the latter by 19 points to 11. There was a large attendance of the public at the match. Girl Breaks Arm. A girl, June Chauston, aged 12, whilst playing on a concrete roller on the Recreation ground on Sunday, fell off and broke an arm. An enjoyable time was spent recently at the residence of Mrs Parker, Pukio, when Mrs Parker and Mrs Welch arranged a gathering to raise fnuds for the Pahautea Women’s Division soldiers’ parcel fund. Cards and competitions were enjoyed after which there was a sale of meat, produce and cakes. Mrs Parker made and donated a Union Jack which was auctioned and was bought by Mr G. Enoka. The card prizes were won as follows: —Ladies: Mrs O’Sullivan 1, Mrs Hubbard 2. Men: Mr Sadler 1, Mr Playle 2. Competitions were won by Mesdames 1 Sadler, Knapp and Ness.

The fund benefited by the sum of £l4. A vote of thanks was passed, to the hostesses. COSY THEATRE "BRIGHAM YOUNG.” The thrilling story of the trek of the Mormons to Utah is graphically told in the brilliant picture, “Brigham Young, Frontiersman,” which will be shown on Wednesday night .
