WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the local Women’s Institute when Miss Scrimegour presided. Miss Madsen gave an interesting address on flowers and flower decorations, and also the pruning of rose trees. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competition for the best bloom was won by Mrs O’Brien with Miss Scrimegour second. Mrs Lovegrove was the winner for the best article made from something old The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Lovegrove and Spicer. Personal Items. 1 Miss C. Harvey, head teacher at the local school has been granted leave of absence for one month owing to illhealth. Miss Milne is relieving her. Mr H. Carter, who has been an inmate of the Masterton Hospital for the past two months, has sufficiently recovered to be able to leave for his home. Mr G. Ahipene will shortly leave to undergo training for the Air Force. Cadet Seaman Dick, Te Whaiti, was the guest last week at a party given by his friends. On Tuesday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs Karaitiana, he will be entertained by the Maoris of the district . He will leave on his return to Auckland on Wednesday. Messrs Dixon and Hughes were visitors to Wellington during the week.
