MIDGET SUBMARINE
SOON TO BE EXHIBITED IN AUSTRALIA. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, June 21. The Japanese midget submarines which were destroyed in Sydney on May 31 will soon- be exhibited to the public, states Rear-Admiral MuirheadGould, officer in charge of Sydney’s naval establishments. He said each submarine had carried a crew of two, one an officer. On board had been found food for two days, including a supply of oranges, a bottle of port, a flask of whisky and bottles of soda. Admiral Muirhead-Gould defended himself against criticism for giving the Japanese a naval funeral, declaring: “Such honours, we hope, will be accorded our own men who may fall victims to the enemy. It takes courage to man such steel coffins as these small submarines —the sort of courage that must be universally admired.”
