SECOND FRONT
ANO OTHER ALLIED PROJECTS COMMENT IN UNITED STATES. PACIFIC NOT OVERLOOKED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 19. The “Sun,” in a leader, says the most obvious supposition is that Mr Churchill’s new visit has something to do with a second European front in 1942. It is likely, however, that the main purpose goes far beyond this. Informed circles in Washington say a committee on post-war reconstruction and relief will soon be established. If, the British and Americans are to co-operate for general post-war rehabilitation, early understandings on intentions and on ways and means clearly are desirable. Urgent military, naval and aerial problems of course have the right of way. It is possible that Mr Churchill wishes immediate help in Libya and Egypt and President Roosevelt may wish some action by the British in the Pacific theatre. There is a need for giving the Chinese something to fight with and the Indians something to fight for, so while experts tackle technical problems, their chieftains have historymaking work of their own to do. LIKE WARSHIPS ROOSEVELT AND CHURCHILL. SECRECY AS TO WHEREABOUTS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, Noon.) RUGBY, June 19. President Roosevelt’s secretary, Mr Stephen Early, according to a Washington message, stated that the whereabouts of Mr Churchill and President Roosevelt were like those of warships. They must be kept secret for security reasons. Conferences, he said, were taking place somewhere in the United States.
