FIFTY YEARS AGO

HOSPITAL BOARD ANNUAL MEETING. A newspaper report of about 50 years ago which aroused some interest at the meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board read:—“The annual meeting of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board was held this day (a Wednesday). Present: Messrs Beetham, Stuckey (Wairafapa North), Bolton (Pahiatua), Eton (Masterton Borough). On the motion of Mr Stuckey, seconded by Mr Bolton, Mr Beetham was elected chairman and Mr H. E. Eton treasurer. The secretary reported a credit balance at the bank of £2l Os 3d, and laid before the board the audited balance sheet for the year ended March 31, 1890. The correspondence outwards and inwards since the date of the last meeting was read. Messrs Stuckey and Beetham were appointed to countersign cheques drawn on the board’s account. The secretary was instructed to request the Trustees of the Masterton and Greytown hospitals to furnish their estimates for 1891-2 not later than March 2 next. Accounts amduntingfo £5 353 4d were passed for payment and the board adjourned.”
