FEATHERSTON

UNITED NATIONS DAY SERVICES IN CHURCHES. (“Times-Age” Special.) United Nations’ Day was suitably observed in the churches yesterday. In the Methodist Church the Rev. L. A. D. Hayman conducted a youth service in the morning. Sergeant Morgan was the preacher in the evening. At St. John’s Anglican Church a medical and nursing service was held in the evening when the nursing staff from various local hospitals attended. The lessons were read by Dr. G. S. Sharp. The Rev. J. R. Higgs was the preacher at all the services which were well attended. The Rev. W. S. Young was the preacher at the Presbyterian services when special reference was made to the United Nations. At St. Teresa’s Church suitable sermons were preached. Personal Items. Miss Pamela Brooks, of Wellington, was the weekend guest of Miss Janet Allen. The death occurred at her residence in Featherston on Saturday of Mrs Eli-) zabeth Huntly at the age of 85 years. Golf. An eclectic competition was played on the Gum Grove golf links during the weekend. The best cards were: G. O’Neale 32, 1; H. McCarty 33J, 2; L. G. Benton 34, 3. COSY THEATRE WEDNESDAY’S PROGRAMME. On Wednesday night there will be shown the brilliant comedy-drama, •‘One Night in Lisbon,” featuring Madeleine Carroll, Fred Mac Murray and Billie Burke.
