CARTERTON

THE DAIRY INDUSTRY FACTORIES CLOSE FOR SEASON. ("Times-Age” Special.) Several of the cheese factories in the Carterton district have closed down for this season. Others are only working every other day and will soon cease operations for the season. Early in the season an appeal was made to dairy farmers to supply an increased amount of milk to their factories and thereby enable the output of cheese to be increased, This appeal was responded to and all the factories show an increase in output as compared with last season. The ‘’Times-Age” Carterton representative was informed by factory managers that the total increase in the quantity of cheese in this district amounted to approximately 312 tons. The Dalefield Company’s output is 1,160 tons, an increase of 50 tons; Belvedere made 550 tons, an increase of 90 tons; Parkvale 600 tons, an increase of 100 tons; Carrington 340 tons, an increase of 50 tons, the highest for 8 years; Waihakeke 330 tons, an increase of 12 tons; Kokotau an. .increase of 10 tons on last year’s output; Ahiaruhe did not increase its output and made 125 tons. At all the factories the quality has shown considerable improvement over previous years.

Patriotic Dance,

There was a large attendance at the State Theatre on Saturday when the Carterton Patriotic Committee held its weekly dance. The music was supplied by Udy’s and the Blue River combined orchestras. Much appreciated extras were played by Miss V. Irwin and Messrs G. Challis, T. Udy, D. Irwin and S. Hemi. The M.C’s. were Messrs P. Beere and L. M. Clark.

A Lucky Spot waltz was won by Mr and Mrs G. Brazendale and a Lucky Spot fox trot by Miss Joan Sexton and partner. Supper was presided over by members of the W.W.A.S. Education Board Election. The Education Board election for the Wairarapa rural area, which extends from Martinborough to Pahiatua, will take place on July 15, and one of the sitting members, Colonel T. W. McDonald, who retires, is again offering himself for re-election. At present Wairarapa has two representatives, and both these live in Wellington. There are seventy-two schools in the Wairarapa area, and the local school committees are of the opinion that this large area should have some- ( one on the board who resides in the Wairarapa rural area. Mr H. J. McKenzie, chairman of the Carterton District High School, is offering his services in opposition to Colonel T. W. McDonald. REGENT THEATRE “I WANTED WINGS.” Finally tonight there will be shown the thrilling drama of the air, “I Wanted Wings.” The chief roles in this dramatic offering are taken by Ray Milland, Wm. Holden and Wayne Morris.
