E.P.S. ORGANISATION

MASTERTON AND DISTRICT COMMITTEE. NEXT TRIAL ON JULY 18. Further consideration to E.P.S. organisation was given last night by the Masterton and District E.P.S. The chairman, Mr T. Jordan, presided. Mr Jordan stated that an effort was being made to get the Home Guard personnel fixed, and until that was done they could not get the E.P.S. personnel definitely determined. A detailed report was submitted bjr Mr J. C. D. Mackley covering the activities of the transport section of the E.P.S. in the recent trial. The report was considered very satisfactory. Reporting on the supply committee’s work at the trial, Mr J. H. Cunningham stated that 500 cups of tea were distributed to the E.P.S. personnel. It was agreed to order 400 steel helmets for the use of the E.P.S. Notification was received that Mr W. C. Day, sub-commander of the Oil Industry E.P.S., had been appointed to represent that organisation on the E.P.S. committee. A number of circulars were received from the National Service Department regarding various phases of E.P.S. organisation. Advice was received that women members of the teaching profession had been allocated to the various town districts for visiting homes in the event of an emergency. It was decided that they report to wardens’ posts. The public’s attention was drawn to the fact that a limited supply of bucket pumps was available for sale to those requiring same. It was decided to hold the next daylight emergency trial on July 18.
