WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION FAST GAMES ON SATURDAY. SURPRISE IN LADIES JUNIOR GRADE. Conditions were ideal for hockey at Lansdowne on Saturday and some very fast and interesting games were witnessed, especially the matches between No. 2 team and No. 8 team (Wairarapa College) in the men’s section and Excelscior and Carterton in the senior ladies’ section. The surprise of the day was the defeat of Excelsior junior ladies by Carterton A ladies at the College grounds. RESULTS AT A GLANCE. Men’s Games. No. 1 team 12, No. 7 team 2. No. 6 team 7, No. 5 team 1. No. 2 team 8, No. 8 team 5. No. 4 team 9, No. 3 team 5. Senior Ladies. Excelsior 5, Carterton 1. Greytown defeated Kia Ora. Junior Ladies. ' Carterton A 2, Excelsior 0. Wairarapa College 8, Carterton B 0. Sincerity a bye. MEN’S SECTION. NO. 2 TEAM v NO. 8 TEAM. The game between No. 2 team and No. 8 team (Wairarapa College) produced very fast play. The College boys put up a good performance against older and more experienced opponents. Toward the end of the game College was playing far better than their opponents. An outstanding feature of the game was the fine exhibition given by the College goalkeeper who had a lot of work to do and made many good sav<?s. LADIES’ DIVISION. 1 EXCELSIOR v CARTERTON. Excelsior and Carterton ladies’ teams played good hockey. Excelsior did most of the attacking in the first spell but the Carterton full backs played a good game and held Excelsior to 3-0 at the interval. The home team commenced the second spell by attacking and added two more goals. Carterton then put more life into their play and for over half of the second spell had Excelsior defending hard. The Carterton score .should have been higher but lack of understanding among the inside forwards and infringements in the circle spoiled chances to goal. The game ended in favour of Excelsior by 5 goals to 1.
