GETTING INTO ACTION
U.S.A. ANTI-SUBMARINE FORCES PROTECTION OF TROOPS PLACED FIRST. NOT ONE SOLDIER LOST. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received AThis Day Noon.) WASHINGTON, June 7. The chairman of the House Naval Committee, Mr Vinson, in a statement approved by the Navy, declared United States anti-submarine warfare has passed the initial period of growing pains and is now functioning efficiently. Mr Vinson added that during recent weeks already many enemy submarines have been withdrawn from the east coast and are now operating farther seaward. Mr Vinson further explains that the Navy has been confrpnted with the difficulty of protecting troops and transports with a limited number of “This possibly swells losses of coastal merchantmen,” he added, “but who will say the Navy’s decision to divert escorts for troop transports was unsound if it is realised that thus far we have not lost one., soldier., from many thousands sent overseas?”
