ENEMY WITHDRAWAL

FROM MIDWAY iSLAND AREA REPORTED BY ADMIRAL NIMITZ. “BUT THEY MAY COME BACK.” LONDON, June 7. Japanese fleet units were withdrawing from the Midway Island area, Admiral Nimitz stated in a communique issued from Washington, but he added that they might return. “I would not say they have been defeated yet,” the Admiral observed. The communique reported that operations were still going on in the North Pacific, where the enemy attacked Dutch Harbour. The position in that area was obscure. Details of the Coral Sea battle would soon be released.
