WEDDING HUME—McLEAN-QUINTON. ("Times-Age” Special.) The wedding took place in Sydney’ on Tuesday, May 19, of Miss Jean Mc-Lean-Quinton and Driver Guy John Hume, A.1.F., fifth son of the late Mr William Hume and of Mrs Hume, Raho Ruru, Pirinoa. The bride, who is the daughter of Mr and Mrs D. K. Mc-Lean-Quinton, of Lane Cove, Sydney, is drum major of the Australian Women’s Flying Club, and members of the club decorated St. Phillip’s Church for the wedding. Final arrangements were made only the day before the wedding when the bridegroom arrived in Sydney on leave following service in the Middle East. A reception was held at Double Bay.

PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE

SUCCESSFUL DANCE. The local Patriotic Committee held a most successful dance on Saturday evening. The euchre prizes were won by Mesdames Lovegrove and McKenzie (ladies) and Messrs Len Harris and Scrimegour (men). The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss M. Riwai and Mr N. Rangi. Other prizes were won by Messrs L. Harris and Matson (chocolates), and Mr D. J. Mclntosh (dinner). Mr S. Mclntosh was M.C., and the dance music was supplied by local players. Personal Items. The death occurred recently at Makara of Mr Samuel Bowler. The deceased was well known in this district having resided here with his daughter, Mrs Maurice Oldridge, for some time. Mrs W.\Linton, Dalefield, is a daughter. Mr J. Riwai, Wellington, was a visitor to Pirinoa over the weekend. , Mr and Mrs E. Taurau were visitors to Rangiotu for the weekend. ■ Mr J. McDonald has returned from a visit to Marton. Mrs Nicol was the guest of Miss Scrimegour for the weekend. Mrs lan Tomlin is visiting her mother, Mrs O’Brien. . Miss Joan Lovegrove has been visiting her parents for a few days. Mrs J. Duggan is visiting relatives in Nelson. Mr and Mrs McLean, Gisborne, are staying with Mr and Mrs Hapi Sutherland. They lived in this district some forty years ago. Mr H. Johnston, overseer in connection with the Native housing scheme, was a visitor here for a few days. Miss C. Enoka is staying with her aunt, Mrs V. Saunders'. Road Blocked. As a result of the recent heavy rain slips have come down on the Palliser Bay Road, which is now completely blocked. The weather during the past week has been very stormy and rain has fallen every day for over a week.. Some very heavy falls of rain and hail were experienced and the creeks and rivers are still high.
