CENTRAL SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. CHILDREN COLLECT ERGOT. The monthly meeting of the Central School Committee was held in the school last evening, there being present: Messrs W. R. Nicol (chairman), A. I. Gibbs, Geo. Bilderbeck, P. H. Shaw, Geo. Masters, T. A. Russell and the headmaster, Mr E. G. Coddington. The financial statement revealed a satisfactory position and accounts amounting to £2 Is 8d were passed. The headmaster read his monthly report which revealed a further rise in the roll number bringing the total to date to 600. Very inclement weather had affected the attendance which was, however, improving. Attention was drawn to the fact that over 61bs. of ergot had been collected by the children of the school during the season. It was noted that Flight Sergeant I. J. McLachlan, a member of the staff and an old pupil of the school had been granted the Distinguished Flying Medal. It was decided to write a letter of congratulation to his parents. It was decided to apply for improved accommodation for the staff. Messrs Nicol, Gibbs and Nelson were appointed a visiting committee.
