LOST TRINIDAD
CRUISER WITH RECORD OF GOOD SERVICE. CAPTAIN REPORTED SAFE. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, June 1. The cruiser Trinidad, the loss of which was reported yesterday, was launched in 1939. Last March she was engaged in a clash with German warships and U-boats in an attack on a convoy carrying British and American supplies to Russia. This action took place in the southern Barents Sea. After crippling a large enemy destroyer, the Trinidad gave chase to another destroyer, which escaped. The Trinidad’s main armament was 12 six-inch guns mounted in triple turrets, and she carried three aircraft and one catapult. Captain L. S. Saunders commanding the ship, is reported safe.
