VEGETABLE GROWING

CALL ON ALL HOUSEHOLDERS. MEETING OF MASTERTON COMMITTEE. Several resolutions were passed last night by a meeting of the Masterton Vegetable Growing Committee, presided over by Mr W. Kemp. The resolutions were: — That householders in this district must grow their own vegetables, as they will have difficulty in buying them in future owing to the great shortage of manpower. The Government be requested, with a view to educating the public to ar- > range lectures by radio and otherwise by officers of the Horticultural Divis-ion,-ap to when, what and how to plant. This committee is of the opinion that » in order to ease the vegetable shortage the Government be urged to establish gardens in close proximity to each camp and make use of the experienced gardeners in the forces. That the Education Department be urged to give more prominence to practical gardening in the scho'ol syllabus.
