THE JEEP
AMERICAN ARMY’S LIGHT CAR. With American troops cropping up suddenly in so many parts of the Empire, the "‘Jeep” is likely to burst upon almost anyone anywhere. Here is what a New York correspondent, Fletcher Pratt, had to say- about it in a recent 8.8. C. broadcast. “The ‘Jeep’ was originally a comicstrip animal, with paws like mittens and a fourth dimensional brain, which enabled it to go anywhere. That’s how the American Army’s new light car,, sametimes called the ‘Blitz buggy,’ the ‘bug’ or the ‘whack,’ finally received | the definitive name of ’Jeep.' It is one of the outstanding successes of American arms production, both in quality and quantity. It is rapidly turning the new American Army into the most highly rnotorisd force in the world, and it looks like the answer to the transportation problem which is the most serious in our modern war. “There is nothing particularly secret about the Jeep in a technical sense. I
have rib ‘doubt that the U.S. Army would be perfectly willing to furnish the Axis with complete plans for the Jeep, provided they did not ask for the jigs and fixtures which enable American industry to turn out the cars in such vtet quaritities, or for the skilled workmen, who can handle these machines.”
