PARKVALE DANCE COMPETITION WINNERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a fair attendance at the, Parkvale Hall on Saturday night when the second of a series of patriotic dances and card tournaments was held. The music was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra, and extras, played by Mrs R. Williams and Miss A. Sorensen, were much appreciated. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr Davidson and Mrs Fisher. The M.C. was Mr C. Jensen, Junr. The winners at cards were Mrs Phelps and Mr A. Oliver. A Wet Month. Mr J. A. Roberts, of Carrington, reports that the rainfall for May was 10.04 inches against 6.38 inches for May, 1941. The average is about 7 inches. The heaviest fall occurred on May 8 when 2.30 inches were registed. There were 20 wet days during May. Cheese Factories. Some cheese factories are now only receiving supplies of milk on alternate days, owing to the cold and wet weather. It is expected that all the factories will cease operations for the season at the end of June. Wairarapa Rugby Union. The fortnightly meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union’s management committee will be held on Wednesday evening. Snow Heavy on Mt. Holdsworth. Foui' local residents who left for Mt. Holdsworth in quest of deer on Saturday returned to Carterton yesterday and reported that in the vicinity of the top mountain house there is three feet of snow. Personal Items. Mr H. J. McKenzie is confined to his home, suffering from influenza. The death occurred at Palmerston North Hospital of Mr Robert Neil Bowles. Deceased, who was born in Carterton, was for many years employed in the printing trade in this town. He leaves a widow and two children. Hockey. A match between the Carterton Home Guard and an Army team was played on Carrington Park on Saturday, the former winning by 10 goals to one. REGENT THEATRE “CITIZEN KANE.” An amazing picture, “Citizen Kane,” ' will be presented tonight. It is one of outstanding dramas for the year.
