FANCY DRESS DANCE
WAIRARAPA INTERHOUSE ASSOCIATION. GATHERING ON SATURDAY NIGHT. The Wairarapa Interhouse Association’s plain and fancy dress dance, held in the Municipal Hall on Saturday night was an outstanding success, the hall being crowded with dancers. The Fighting Forces were well represented. The parade of fancy dresses and posters was a feature of the proceedings. Messrs J. Bruce, L. Askew and W. R. Pawson ably controlled the dancing and Mr Geo. Davis made the announcements. Misses F. Bellis and V. Wickens officiated as fancy dress stewards. Barnes’s Rhythm Boys supplied excellent music, whilst the buffet supper was an enjoyable feature of the evening.
The following were the prize winners:—
Class 1 (hard-up dress), Old Time Maori, Mrs J. VI. Hayden 1; Grow More Vegetables, Miss Olga Sutherland 2. Class 2 (most original): W.F.C.A. “Towers Above All Others,” Miss Audrey Keisenberg, 1; Walking Chemist’s Shop, Miss Marion Prout 2. Class 3 (best fancy dress): Carnival Miranda, Brhce M'cHattie, 1; Ann Boleyn, Mrs McMillan, 2. Class 4 (trade display): Cambridge Book Shop, Valina Price, 1; J. R. McKenzies (Edna Brown) 2.
Competition winners were: Monte Carlo dance, Miss M. O’Connor and Mr Dalgleish; Lucky Spot, Mi'ss McLaughlan, and Ti/Cpl. J. R. Stevens. The committee 'expresses its sincere thanks to all those helpers who assisted to make the evening such a success.
