CHURCH FAREWELL
ST. MATTHEW’S CHOIRMASTER. GATHERING IN PARISH HALL. Parishioners of St. Matthew’s Church assembled in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon, following the ' service, to farewell the choirmaster, Mr William C. Mann, who left today to take up his residence in Christchurch. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich spoke of the faithful service Mr Mann had given for 101 years, as choirmaster at St. Matthew’s and of the high standard he had maintained throughout that period. On behalf of the parishioners, Mr J. Ninnes, people’s churchwarden, presented Mr Mann with a chiming clock and Mr Archer Hale, on behalf of the choir, handed him. a suitcase. Mrs Mann was presented with a bouquet by Miss Colquhoun and Athol Mann, a choirboy, was given a prayer book. In acknowledging the gifts, Mr Mann referred to the choir. as a group of friends who had loyally supported him throughout his period as choirmaster. He said he regretted leaving St. Matthew’s and wohld always remember with the pleasantest recollections his happy, association with it. Refreshments were handed round by the ladies. Mr A. Miller Hop'e has bhen appointed choirmaster and organist.
