■— Mrs W. Hume is on a short visit to Mrs W. Trevor Hume, Raho Ruru, Featherston. Mr John Lewis, formerly chief placement officer at Wellington, is now a lieutenant in the British Army. He was previously serving in the Royal Navy as a lieutenant. Lieutenant R. R. Champtaloup, formerly of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, who resigned his commission in the New Zealand Forces last year to join the Indian Army, has been promoted to the rank of captain in the Rajputana Riffes, one of India’s most famous fighting regiments. He was educated at the Auckland Grammar School.

The news was received on Friday by Mesdames J. Johnston, of Lincoln Road, Masterton, and F. Groube, Swamp Road, Carterton, of the death of their mother, Mrs Mary Minihan, at the age of 84 years. Deceased came to New Zealand as a girl from Ireland and since the Great War had resided in Greymouth. Her husband, Mr James Minihan, predeceased her many years ago.

The death occurred suddenly on Saturday of Mr G. Stamp-Taylor, M.C., M.1.E.E., at his residence at Silverstream. He was a son of the late Dr G. Stamp-Taylor, of Leeds. He served in the South African campaign, and from 1914-18 he fought with the 17th Northumberland Fusiliers, attaining the rank of major, and being awardee! the Military Cross. In 1919 he came to New Zealand as the representative for Reyrolls, Ltd., electrical switch gear manufacturers. He was later appointed manager for Australia and New Zealand, and took up his residence in Sydney. On reaching the retiring age, he made his home in New Zealand.
