CATTLE FAIR

PRICES AT MASTERTON. The Associated Auctioneers report as follows: The last cattle fair of the season was held in Masterton yesterday. Only a yarding of approximately 800 head came forward. The attendance was well below the usual number, largely dufe, no doubt, to the inclement weather. Only one outside buyer was operating. Most of the cattle showed the effects of the cold, boisterous weather experienced in the Wairarapa during the last few days. It was predicted before the start of the sale that prices would not reach the high level of those ruling at the last fair, and this proved correct. Nevertheless practically the whole yarding changed hands at very satisfactory prices. Several pens of fats were offered, but most of these were unfinished. The following are prices:—2>/ 2 yr steers (good condition) £9 to £9 17, others £8 to £8 16s; 18mos steers £6 10s to £B, small £4 10s to £5 ss; weaner steers £4 to £4 17s 6d, small £3 10s; station cows £3 10s to £4 18s; cows and calves £6 19s; 2>, 2 yr P.A. Heifers £4 8s to £5; 18mos heifers £4 to £4 19s; cows r.w. bull £4 to £5 12s. Fat cattle: Fat bullocks £lO 15s to £ll 10s; light bullocks £8 10s to £9 15s; fat cows £7 5s to £8 ss; unfinished £6 to £7; fat heifers £7 2s 6d to £7 10s; light £6 5s to £6 18s; vealers £2 12s to £4 Is.
