POWER BOARD MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Tararua Electric Power Board there were present: Messrs P. Davies (in the chair), J. B. Carruthers, J. G. Brechin, Britland, Thos. Fouhy, A. W. Bissett, E. W. Cheetham, C. T. Richardson and P. S. Page. An apology for absence was received from Mr S. J. Judd. Mi' P. Davies, of Hamua, and Mr W. Britland, of Pahiatua, were unanimously re-elected chairman and deputy chairman respectively for the ensuing 12 months. Before vacating the chair prior to his re-election, Mr Davies expressed his thanks to the members for their cooperation during the year. He also expressed thanks to the engineer-man-ager and the secretary-treasurer for their devotion to duty. He referred to the long hours of work that they had put in since being appointed to their positions. He also appreciated the assistance and keenness of every member of the staff. The board was most fortunate in having such an excellent staff.

A letter was received from the Power Board’s Association referring to the seriousness of the motor tire situation and stating that it was hoped to make arrangements whereby electric supply authorities would be placed in the class to be given priority in the matter of tires. A letter was received from the associate minister of National Service giving an assurance that the Government was taking care to keep E.P.S. and Home Guard organisations in their proper perspective. This was in a reply to a resolution passed at the previous meeting of the board asking the Government to arrange matters in such a way that the strength of the Home Guard would not be impaired through the setting up of too many branches of the E.P.S. A notice of intention to use for Army Emergency Transport one of the board’s heavy motor vehicles was received from the Wairarapa District Motor Vehicle Controller. The District Controller pointed out that the notice was served so that the vehicle may be available for use by the armed forces in the event of extreme urgency. It would only be when the country was facing the threat of an attack that the vehicle would be taken. A letter was received from the Minister of Public Works giving authority to the board to collect a monthly minimum charge of 3s 6d from domestic consumers when the new. system of charging comes into operation. Previously the monthly minimum charge was 10s 6d or 12s 6d according to the rate under which the consumer was charged. The Engineer-Manager' reported that an opossum had caused serious damage to one of the Public Works Department’s transformers at Mangamaire. It was decided that Mr Jefferies be engaged as meter reader for the duration of the war. Mr P. S. Page was granted leave of absence for June, He stated that it might be necessary for him to resign his seat on the board owing to military obligations. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs A. J. Meads, Levin, and Mr and Mrs F. H. Schorman, Hastings, were visitors to Eketahuna for the Schorman—Oliver wedding. The death occurred in the Auckland Hospital on Monday of Mr Clyde Bebington at the age of 60 years. He was well known in Eketahuna and at one time was employed by Mr J. F. Baillie, builder. He is survived by his widow (nee Miss Mildred Murrell), and one son who is overseas. Mrs Kendall is a sister-in-law.
