WORK ON HOLIDAYS. IN INTERESTS OF WAR EFFORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 27. / A decision to work in the timber industry on the King’s Birthday holiday and also on two Sundays in the interests of the war effort is announced by „ the national secretary of the union, Mr F. Craig. , “I have received a telegram from the Director of Forestry stating that saw-\ millers had been notified that they ' were required to work at least eight hours on the King’s Birthday, he says. “The rates of pay will be double, not treble, time. The. union has consented to work, as all available timber is needed for war purposes..
“A suggestion was also adopted to work two Sundays on the same terms, the days to be announced later.”
