STEEL PRODUCTION
EXPANSION IN UNITED STATES DOUBLING TOTAL AXIS OUTPUT. BUT NONE FOR CIVILIAN USE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, Noon.) WASHINGTON, May 26. Government officials announce that the steel output from American mills in 1942 will be twice the maximum amount which the Axis can produce, even with the aid. of Axis-dominated countries. The estimate is that of a consensus of Government experts and leaders of the steel industry. While there will not be a vestige of steel for civilian use, the steel industry will fulfil all war production requirements.
