BATTLES FOR KERCH
REPORTS OF INTENSE FIGHTING NO SOVIET CONFIRMATION. OF ATTACKS NEAR TAGANROG. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, May 21. Moscow officially announces that intense fighting is still going qn in the eastern part, of the Kerch Peninsula. Yesterday the Moscow radio declared that new and heavy battles were about to begin round the town of Kerch. There is no Soviet confirmation of a claim made yesterday by Berlin radio, which said that, apparently in an effort to forestall the expected German drive to the. Caucasus, the Russians launched heavy attacks near Taganrog, north of the Sea of Azov, where fierce fighting was in progress.
