AIR FORCE RELATIONS

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKINGFLYING JERSEY.

At the monthly meeting of the Air Force Relations Committee, the following members were present: Mesdames Lord (in the chair), A. Harcombe, H. Rishworth, G. W. Sellar and J. A. Betts. Apologies were received from Mesdames S. Gill, P. Nathan and Miss Patrick.

Mrs Ayling was elected to the committee.

After the meeting the committee packed four cases of tinned food, suitable for sending overseas. A box of woollen garments included 29 pullovers, 8 balaclavas, 3 pairs of blue uniform gloves, and 4 Cranwell jerseys. The Cranwell flying jersey is issued to the men in place of a scarf, and is said to be very popular with them.. The pattern is very simple and requires 4 ozs. of 4-ply Air Force blue wool, and 2 No. 7, and 2 No. 9 needles. Back and front are alike. Cast on 76 stitches. Knit in garter stitch for 8 inches. Then knit 8 rows, casting off 4 at the beginning of each end. Knit to end 44 stitches. Change to No. 9 needles, and knit in rib of knit 2, purl 2 for 8 inches. Cast off. Sew collar and shoulder seams. Press seams.

Parcels of comforts, knitted garments, or tinned food may be sent to any member of the committee, or left at the offices of Messrs Dunderdale and Gray, Page’s Buildings, Perry Street Masterton. The parcels will be packed and forwarded to Wellington on the 20th of every month.
