E.P.S. TEST

DAYLIGHT EMERGENCY TRIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR TOMORROW AFTERNOON. RESTRICTIONS ON TRAFFIC. The first daylight emergency E.P.S. trial to be held in Masterton will take place tomorrow afternoon, starting at 1.15 o’clock and concluding at 3.30. Arrangements have been made on a wide scale for a complete test of the E.P.S. organisation. Added realism to the mock air raid is to be given by the participation of aircraft, thanks to the co-operation of Wing Commander Ayling. Certain sections of streets will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, namely, Queen Street at the Waipoua Bridge, Queen Street from Park Street to Perry Street, Church Street from Queen Street to Dixon Street and Lincoln Road from Queen Street to Chapel Street. As no cars will be permitted to be moved from the streets closed for traffic until after the sounding of the all clear signal at 3.30 p.m. motorists will be well advised to shift their cars before the alarm is sounded. The only vehicles permitted to move through other streets in the borough during the emergency period will be those of the armed forces, to bus service, taxis, through traffic and E.P.S. vehicles. Through traffic will be directed by way of Te Ore Ore Road, Colombo Road and. Kuripuni Street. Pedestrians should disperse rather than assemble at any point. A portable loud speaker unit will traverse the principal streets to give directions to the public.
