PERCENTAGE OF APPEALS
INCREASES WITH EACH BALLOT.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day
Recently the Minister of National Service when referring to the Gazette calling up 17,955 men of the 29-31 age group (married men with children) for military service asked for a minimum of appeals, so that the fighting services could be built up rapidly. It was stated yesterday that some 1200 appeals have been lodged in the Wellington district alone, where the total number of men called up in this ballot was 2187. This is well over 50 per cent, and exceeds the proportion for the 18-28 years married men’s ballot. The percentage of appeals against military service has increased with each ballot. Since the No. 5 area (Wellington) Manpower Committee was established less than two years ago, it has received more than 10,000 appeals against military service.
