CANADA & VICHY

NO DIPLOMATIC BREAK AT PRESENT CONSIDERATION FOR FRENCH PEOPLE. NO APPROVAL OF PARTICULAR GOVERNMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, May 19. The Prime Minister of Canada, Mr Mackenzie King, told the House of Commons in Ottawa today that Canada had decided against a change in relations with Vichy at present. The Government, he said, had taken into account the belief that the great majority of the French people favoured the United Nations’ cause, and their morale must be maintained. The decision was not to be considered as an indication of approval of any particular government, Mr King added, and he said he believed the feeling in Canada was strongly against the present French administration.
