A committee meeting of the Carterton Red Cross was held in the Borough Offices last week. There were present Mr D. L. Taverner (chairman), Mesdames Loftus, Every, Stubbs, Fairbrother, Steffert, the treasurer. Mr Callander, and the secretary, Miss Berrill. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on Monday, May 25, at 8 p.m., in the Dalefield Buildings. A letter is to be sent to Miss Dorgan, of the Dalefield School, congratulating fourteen, members on becoming the first Junior Red Cross section in the district.

Mr Taverner reported on the Central Executive meeting held in Masterton on April 15. Mrs Loftus, lady superintendent of the X T .A. section, reported that five V.A.’s had sat for their Senior Home Nursing examination, three passing with honours. Nineteen sat for Elementary First Aid; all passed, three with honours.

Mrs Fairbrother, Transport Commandant, reported that Sergeant Dewar was giving the drill instructions. Lieutenant Hartinan had given four lectures on A.R.P. work. Four ■ members sat for their First Aid Certificate, all passing, one with honours. A hamper of cakes and biscuits for soldiers in the Greytown Hospital was arranged for Friday, May 14. On May 1 the Transport Section sent a hamper to the 10th Field Ambulance, and the V.A. Section a hamper to Greytown Hospital. Wairarapa Rugby Union. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union will be held tonight in the P. and A. Rooms, Carterton, at 8 o’clock. Red Cross Examinations. The following members of the Carterton Voluntary Aid Section of the Red Cross have passed their Senior Home Nursing examination: Miss Vaughan (honours), Miss Ingley (honours), Mrs Steffert (honours) and Miss Newbold. Personal. Lieut. F. Hill, who has been on leave in Carterton, returned to Nelson yesterday. Aircraftman Stan Hall, of Carterton, who has been on leave, returned to duty yesterday. Pte. Martin, son of Mr and Mrs W. Martin, of Rexwood Street, Carterton, is an inmate of the Dannevirke Public Hospital. His father and a brother left yesterday to visit him. The funeral of the late Mrs Webb, which took place yesterday, was well attended by mourners from various parts of the district. The service at the graveside was conducted by Mr Manning, of Pahiatua. The pall-bearers were Bros. P. Reid, H. J. McKenzie, KH. Reid, F. Taplin, F. Burling and C. Kitchen, all members of the Druids’ Lodge. Visit of Scout Commissioner. Chief Scout Commissioner Christie will visit Carterton tomorrow evening when he will meet Scouts and interested residents at the Fire Brigade Hall at 8 p.m. It is hoped there will be a large attendance. Poultry Keepers. Those registered poultry keepers interested are reminded of the meeting to be held in St. Mark’s Hall, Carterton, tomorrow night at 7.30 o’clock. The principal business is the election of delegates to attend a meeting at Palmerston North for the purpose of forming a nevz Wellington Provincial Council of Registered Poultry Keepers. REGENT THEATRE “GONE WITH THE WIND UP.” Tonight will be the final presentation of “Gone With the Wind Up.” This picture is breaking all records for hilarity, with the Crazy Gang, Flannagan and Allen, Nervo and Knox Naughton and Gold.
