DORNIER DESTROYED
CAUGHT BY SPITFIRES IN ATTEMPT TO ATTACK CONVOY. MINOR RAIDS ON BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) RUGBY, May .17. Two Spitfire pilots on convoy patrol yesterday afternoon destroyed a Dornier 217, which was preparing to attack a convoy off the east coast. The Dornier had thick smoke pouring from it as it crashed into the sea. This morning a few enemy aircraft dropped bombs at two places on the south-east coast of England. There were some casualties, including a small number of persons killed, and some damage was done.
