RIDGE OF WAR
IN SIGHT BUT NOT YET TOPPED MR CHURCHILL ON WAR OUTLOOK. NO FAVOURS EXPECTED FROM ENEMY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, May 16. The Prime Minister, Mr Churchill, speaking at Leeds today, said: “We have reached a period in the war when it is premature to say that we have topped the ridge, but we see the ridge ahead now. The United Nations will come to the top of the ridge without flinching, and perseverance will surely carry us on to one of the most deep-founded movements for humanity in our history. “In the thirty-first month of the war none ‘of us is weary of the struggle, and no one is calling for favours from the enemy. If he plays rough, we will play rough, too. We will take whatever we have to take, and give it back in greater measure.”
