GARAND RIFLE
ISSUED TO AMERICANS IN AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, May 15. It has been announced that the American troops at battle stations have been supplied with the new semiautomatic Garand service rifle, which fires a clip of eight cartridges as fast as the trigger- can be pressed. The new rifle weighs nine pounds, and replaces the Springfield semi-automatic. It has fewer parts and is reported to be more simple to operate.
