Church Services.

The Rev. D. McNeur will preach on Sunday at Wangaehu at 2 p.m., Alfredton at 6 p.m. and Eketahuna at 7.30 p.m. Fall From Horse. Miss Rankura Morris, of Okautete, Homewood, has been admitted to Masterton Hospital. She fell off a horse and injured her arm. Her condition this morning is satisfactory. Interhouse Dance. Dance patrons are reminded of the Interhouse dance to be held in the Municipal Hall tomorrow night. A full dance band has been engaged, and the supper arrangements are on a lavish scale. The floor has been specially prepared and everything has been done to ensure the complete enjoyment of patrons. Members of the forces in uniform will be made especially welcome. Substitute for Lighting Fires. As a substitute for paper, for the purpose of lighting fires in the home, wheat straw is known to be equally as good. In the rural districts of England straw was used Jess than half a century ago for this purpose. A bale of dry wheat straw would last the average home a considerable period. The method of using the straw is to take a good handful and roll it into a fairly light wisp. As the paper shortage is becoming acute, advantage should be taken of this inexpensive substitute for lighting fires. In the hall of a public building at Nancy there is a large map of France, put there by the Germans. On this map, all the north of France, corresponding roughly with the Pas-de-Calais, Somme, is marked as forming part of the German Reich. The southJeast of France is marked as territory belonging to Italy. 1
