CARTERTON
RUGBY FOOTBALL OPENING OF SEASON. (“Times-Age” Special.) Games played under’ the jurisdiction of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union will commence tomorrow. The Carterton A team will meet Masterton at Rugby Park, Masterton, and Carterton B will play against Dalefield on Carrington Park, Carterton. The Army teams will play their second games on various grounds and some good football should be witnessed. Church Services. A Church of England service will be held at Longbush at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday. Boy Scouts. A part}’ of Carterton Boy Scouts left this week for Petone, where they will enjoy a holiday as the guests of Scout boys in that district. Next week the boys will return hom e and bring their friends with them, when the hospitality shown them will be reciprocated. Hockey Grounds. The hockey grounds at Carrington Park have been put into good playing condition by a fatigu’e party of the armed forces, who will play their first game on Saturday next. Two grounds have been prepared, one of which the ladies will use. Tenders for Firewood. In the advertising columns on page 1 today tenders are called by the Carter Home for the supply of 10 cords of good quality firewood. Personal. Mrs Guy Booth, of Pahautanui, is a visitor to Carterton and is staying with her mother. She returns home tomorrow. Patriotic Dance. Parkvale and district residents will hold their first dance this winter for patriotic purposes tomorrow evening and it should prove a successful one. Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra will provide the dance music. Besides the dance a euchre tournament will be held for which good prizes will be given. Returned Services Association. The annual general meeting of the Carterton branch of the Wairarapa Returned Services Association will be held on Monday evening at the Band Room at 8 o’clock. REGENT THEATRE “The Road ,to Frisco,” featuring George Raft, Ann Sheridan and Humphrey Bogart, will be shown finally tonight. Also showing is “Three Men From Texas,” a Hopalong Cassidy Westerner, with William Boyd and Russell Hayden.
