Miss M. Stewart, Renal! Street, Masterton, is visiting Palmerston North. Mr and Mrs H. McLaren, Paraparaumu Beach, are spending a few days in Masterton. Mrs E. J. Jenkins and family, Renall Street, Masterton, are staying at Paraparaumu Beach. Leading Aircraftman M. W. Dixon, of Masterton, has been promoted to the rank of Pilot Officer. Mrs H. G. Shouler and Miss Mary Shouler, Masterton, are spending a holiday in Palmerston North. Mrs K. Groves, Longbush, has returned from a visit to the South Island, and has her daughter, Mrs Douglas Riddell, of Ashburton, staying with her. The three retiring members of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust, Messrs E. G. Eton, C. E. Grey and A. O. Jones, have been again nominated. The death occurred at Howick yesterday of Mr T. J. (Pat) Shaw, late of the Bank of New Zealand, Bulls. He was stationed at Masterton for a period and married Miss Alexa Stewart, of Masterton. , The engagement is announced of Barbara Mary, third daughter of Mr and Mrs A. J. Perry, “Rakau,” Rongbmai, Eketahuna, to Warrant Officer Bernard Godfrey, second son of Mr and Mrs W. V. Piesse, Gisborne. Mr FI. Temple White, Wellington, has been appointed adjudicator of the vocal sections at the Dunedin competitions, to be held in August and September next. This will be the fourth occasion on which Mr White, has judged for the Dunedin Competitions Society. Mr John Collie, who died recently in the Masterton Hospital, was a wellknown and highly respected resident of the Wairarapa. He was born at Taieri 78 years ago, and came to Wellington with his parents, where he resided for many years. He was later farming at Kaitoke and Martinborough. He had been a resident of East Taratahi until he entered the Masterton Hospital ten weeks ago. He leaves a widow, foui sons and a daughter. The resignation of Mr Alex. S. Holmes,- Waimahaka, Southland, as a member of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, has been received by the Minister of Marketing and Agriculture, Mr Barclay. In his letter asking Mr Barclay to accept his resignation as a Government representative on the board, Mr Holmes refers to the pleasant relationships that have always existed between himself and the Minister and the members of his departments. To have reached the age of 101 will be the proud attainment of Mrs Jessie Watt, of Wanganui, who celebrates her birthday on Friday. For over 78 years she was a resident of Wanganui, being greatly esteemed and widely known, but recently she has been staying with relatives in Auckland, where the burden of her years has caused her to take to her bed. Born in Glasgow, Mrs Watt came to New Zealand in 1862 to join a brother who had settled at Wanganui. Soon after she married the late Mr Andrew Watt, a farmer in the neighbourhood.
