CARTERTON
YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. Rose presided over the monthly meeting of the Carterton Young Farmers’ Club, at which there was a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs R. Andrews and A. Stewart. Messrs T. McQueen and A. Stewart were elected members. The chairman gave a very comprehensive report of the Field Day held at Mr L. Daniell’s property at Akura. It was decided that the headmaster of the primary school be invited to give a lecture at the next monthly meeting. In the absence of Mr S. Freeman, Mr Lamont gave a very interesting address and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. S.M. COURT MONTHLY SITTING. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided over the monthly sitting of' the Carterton S.M. Court yesterday. In a debt case, the assigned estate of Sidney E. James v. T. W. Bond, a claim for £6 10s 7d, of which £2 had been paid, 'the magistrate gave judgment for £4 10s 7d, with costs 13s. The police charged E. J. A. Miller that, on April 24, at Carterton, he drove a car without due care and attention. Air D. L. Taverner appeared for defendant and entered a plea of not guilty. The case arose out of a collision between defendant’s car and one driven by A. W. Greigson on Park Road, Carterton. After hearing the evidence the magistrate fined defendant 30s, with costs 10s. A. W. Greigson, for having failed to carry a warrant of fitness for his car, was fined 15s, with 10s costs. AUTOMOBILE ASSN. MONTHLY MEETING. In the absence of the president, Mr H. Lawson, the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Automobile Association was presided over by Mr R. W. Roydhouse. There were also present: Messrs J. W. Card, T. E. Lang, H. J. Jones, F. H. Nicholls, H. E. Jackson. R. W. McLaren and. H. Hardinge, and the secretary, Mr N. C. C. Shepherd. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £126 15s Id. ( The following new members were elected: —Messrs N. Amadio, F. Ellett and A. E. McPherson. A letter was received from the Carter’s Home Committee in regard to river erosion at Carter’s Bush, stating that no action was being taken in the matter by the trustees. It was decided that a letter be written to Mrs Stubbs, Rhodes Street, drawing attention to a hedge on her property which obscured the railway crossing, and asking that it be removed. The signpost at the Riverside junction on the Ponatahi Road, which had been broken, is to be replaced. It was reported that the automobile signs at the Tauanui factory and at the Pirinoa School had been taken away. It was decided that the matter be placed in the hands of the police. A “one way bridge” notice is to be placed on a bridge at Drummond’s Creek, Ponatahi. BOY SCOUTS CARD PARTY. At the weekly card tourney held by the Boy Scout Committee last evening, there was a fair attendance. The prizes were won as follow: :—Ladies: Mrs Miller 1, Mrs Ticehurst 2. Men: Mr Ticehurst 1, Mr Paterson 2. Football. The Carterton B team to play Dalefield on Carrington Park on Saturday will be McKenzie (2), Catt, B. Goodin, L. Royska, Desmond (2), Burt, Walsh, J. Parker, McPhee (3), Chapman, Ireland, Hurndell, B. Butler, D. Martin, G. Stubbs, W. Geange. Hockey. The Carterton ladies’ senior and junior teams will play in Masterton on Saturday. The senior ladies’ team to play College will be: M. Parker, R. Edwards, T. Compton, D. Dunce, B. But-' ler, V. Ward, Z. Ward, F. Jensen, I. Parker, Mrs Playle and another. The bus will leave at 1.45. Wedding. The wedding took place at New Plymouth recently of Leading Aircraftman E. R. Jenkins, youngest son of Mr and Mrs P. Jenkins, Lower Hutt, and Zela O’Connor, only daughter of Mrs T. McKenzie, Clareville. Miss Nola Jenkins was bridesmaid and Mr Keith Broe best man. The bride, who was escorted by her uncle, Mr Edwin Easthope, was attired in a deep cream satin dress cut on simple lines. The bridesmaid wore gold taffeta. At the reception the guests were received by Mesdames McKenzie and P. Jenkins. Personal items. Mr D. N. Adams, manager of the Parkvale Cheese Factory, is laid aside j with influenza. . , ! Commissioner Christie, of the Boy Scouts, will visit Masterton on Saturday, and will meet representatives of the Scout Movement in Carterton on Thursday, May 21. Mr W. Wadham, of Brooklyn Road, Carterton, is an inmate of the Greytown Hospital. Mr Conway Wadham, of the Gisborne Post Office, recently passed part one of the A.M.I.E.E. electrical engin-, eer and radio examination. Mr Wadham has been transferred to the chief engineer’s office in "Wellington. Mr H. Torrey, of Linton, was a visitor to Carterton yesterday. REGENT THEATRE A THRILLING ROMANCE. A thrilling romance, “A Dispatch From Reuters,” will be presented tonight, featuring Edward G. Robinson and Edna Best. Also shown will be “The Lone Wolf Keeps a Date,” in which Warren William and Francis Robinson portray the chief roles.
