NAVY LEAGUE
MEETING IN MASTERTON. PRESENTATION OF PENNANTS. There was a good attendance at the monthly meetting of the local branch of the Navy League, Mrs S. R. Gawith presiding. Apologies for absence were received irom Mesdames J. C. Forsyth, D. M. Graham, P. H. Nathan, R. C. Drumond, P. J- Borthwick and Misses J. McLaren and A. Sellar. Mrs T. Jordan was elected Navy League representative on the Mayoress Patriotic Committee. A letter was- received from Mrs E. J. Rich, secretary of the Anzac Club, asking the Navy League to take charge of the cluo entertainments from May 25 to 29. The committee was unanimously in favour of assisting the Anzac Club. Mrs J. V. Gordon, Mrs A H. Daniell and Miss Guild were elected a sub-committee to arrange for hostesses, etc. Eighty garments were packed and are to be sent to Wellington for shipment overseas. Eighteen were sent to the Mission for Seamen. A vote of thanks was passed to the Misses Stilborn for the gift of a gramophone and records, which have been forwarded to the Mission to Seamen, and Mr G. W. Perry was thanked for repairing the gramophone free of charge. r ,, „ On Saturday, May 2, members of the Navy League comtnittee, accompanied by Major and Mrs C. J. Williams, visited the Kopuaranga and Newman schools, where the pupils of Putara schools were presented with pennants in recognition of their having maintained 100 per cent membership in 1941. Solway College, St Matthew’s School and the Hadlow Preparatory School have also gained pennants in connection with their 1941 membership, and arrangements will be made for their presentations early next term.
