N.S.W. MINERS
WARNED BY MR CURTIN USE OF COMPULSORY POWERS. UNLESS THEY RETURN TO WORK. (By Telegraph —Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Federal Premier (Mr Curtin), in the House of Representatives, warned the New South Wales coalminers that unless they returned to work the Government would invoke all its authority to compel them to do so. Mr Curtin, said the Government was determined that stoppages of work arising from trivialities must cease. The vast majority of the miners had worked willingly, had observed thenawards, and had been loyal to them union leaders. The few who were refusing to co-operate must be compelled to do so. . Despite recent stoppages in the New South Wales coalfields, the Government has done well in maintaining coal pioduction. Although consumption has greatly increased since the outbreak of war, not one factory in Australia has been held up through lack of coal. Reserves actually have been increased, but there must be no relaxation of effort.
