The centenary of the discoverer of reinforced concrete production falls this year. Francois Hennebique, who was born a hundred years ago at Neuville Saint Vaast, near Arras, in France, son of a farmer, left the field for the quarry. At the age of 35, while seeking a perfect cement mixture, he hit upon the formula which made reinforced concrete practicable. He took out a patent in 1892, Reinforced concrete has come more and more into use, especially in France, for bridge construction.
